Flavor: Crispy Sweet & Sour Pork
Country: China (found in Poland)
When Seen: November 2025
In a Bite: A better version of salted egg yolk
In a Haiku: Hailing from Dongbei. It’s sweet, sour, and crunchy. Perfect for winter.
Origin Story: Crispy sweet & sour pork, or guo bao rou as it is known in China, is perhaps the best known dish from the Dongbei region of northeastern China. At least one author claims that “It’s impossible to fully get to know Dongbei cuisine without first trying guo bao rou.” A fitting celebration of northeastern cuisine from the Lay’s Flavor Department.
