Flavor: Nashville Hot Chicken
Country: USA
When Seen: August 2020
In a Bite: A hint of chicken skin, followed by lingering heat on the back of your tongue.
In a Haiku: This chicken’s got zest. Goes down finger-lickin’ good. Exits you aflame.
Origin Story: Nashville is perhaps best known for its music scene, but it is also the birthplace of hot chicken. Originally created in the city’s African American community and made famous by Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack, it is perhaps appropriate in an era of cultural appropriation that the Flavor Department instead chose to honor a newer, white-owned establishment, Party Fowl, for this flavor inspiration.
