Flavor: Lu Rou Fan
Country: Taiwan
When Seen: November 2020
In a Bite: Salty with slightly sweet and smokey notes and a smattering of pork.
In a Haiku: Creepy man with beard, stewing up the finest meat, served on rice in chips.
Origin Story: Lu Rou Fan, a braised pork over rice dish, is considered one of Taiwan’s comfort foods, making it a natural fit to try to cram into a potato chip. For this version, Lay’s has teamed up with Formosa Chang, a restaurant famous for its lu rou fan that has grown from its humble origins as a food stall into a chain with dozens of locations in Taiwan and Japan.
