Origin Story: The Thai Lay’s Flavor Department decided that the Chinese Lay’s “Fish & Chips” simply wasn’t descriptive enough. While the Chinese version keeps it classic and straightforward, the Thai edition insists on the “English-Style” prefix. It’s a charming bit of branding that turns a simple snack into a specific cultural experience, as if the chips themselves come with a tiny, invisible cup of tea and a polite nod of approval. Are they technically the same flavor? We can’t say for sure, as they are both thus far untasted, but we’d like to think that this version comes with a bonus hint of newspaper ink, to capture the traditional English wrapping of this dish.
