Origin Story: It all came to be because of a serendipitous accident at the Lay’s production facility in Peru. The facility, it turns out, produces multiple food products, not just potato chips. On this day, Lay’s were scheduled to be made in the evening, with a pasta company reserving time during the day. Unfortunately, the night shift staff forgot to swap out the blades on the cutter, leaving in place the spaghetti cutter instead of the potato slicer. When they fed the potatoes through, out popped these whimsical potato threads. The team decided to fry them up just to see how they would be, and the rest is, as they say, history.
