Origin Story: Salsa Valentina is beloved by hot sauce fans not only for its flavor, but also for its affordable price, with a 34oz bottle costing less than $4. Named after the so-called Mexican Mulan, Valetina Ramírez Avitia, this brand mashup was first dreamt up over beers at a Cinco de Mayo party attended by members of the Lay’s Flavor Department. Bothered by the fact that the host was only serving plain potato chips, the team grabbed a bottle of Salsa Valentina and a few lime wedges and went to work concocting a snack more deserving of the occasion.
