Flavor: Wasabi Octopus
Country: China (found in USA)
When Seen: January 2025
In a Bite: A hot wasabi kick that quickly fades into a linger fishiness
In a Haiku: Tentacles abound. Sinus clearing wasabi. Crispy, not slimy.
Origin Story: Wasabi octopus, or takowasa, is a popular Japanese appetizer consisting of only two ingredients, raw octopus and wasabi. While the original is not for the faint of heart, the Lay’s Flavor Department decided to capture its essence on a more texturally appealing canvas than slimy octopus.
